The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag is an oath of loyalty to the country recited at many public events. Sessions of Congress begin with a recitation of the Pledge.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
When reciting:
Stand at attention. Face the flag, right hand over heart.
Men not in uniform should remove non-religious headdress with the right hand and hold it at the left shoulder so that their hand is over their heart.
Uniformed persons remain silent, face the flag and give the military salute.
